ليس في الناس منصفُ

I have spoken truly, and I swear:

there is no one fair among people.

ومن الجور أنّني

أتغابي وأعرف

And it is an injustice that I

feign ignorance, though I know.

يظلم المرء نفسه

يظلم المرء نفسه

في هواها ويسرفُ

في هواها ويسرفُ

A man wrongs his own soul

by indulging its desires, and goes to excess.

فإذا غشّ نفسهُ

فإذا غشّ نفسهُ

غيرها كيف ينصف

غيرها كيف ينصف

So if he deceives his own soul,

how can he treat anyone else fairly?
