وصديق وصاحب ونديم

وغلام ومؤنس ومشير

وغلام ومؤنس ومشير

And a friend, a companion, and a drinking companion,

And friend and companion and boon companion

And a servant boy, someone to keep me company, and an adviser,

ملزمي في الخمول عجزا وفي الوح

دة ذنب المبخّل المغرور

دة ذنب المبخّل المغرور

Charging me with incapacity in obscurity, and in solitude

Binding me to laziness out of incapacity and in solitude

With the fault of a deluded man deemed miserly,

The sin of the miserly arrogant one

ويريني مواضع النصح في الت

ويريني مواضع النصح في الت

أليف بيني وبين وجه نضير

أليف بيني وبين وجه نضير

And showing me where sound counsel lies in uniting

And he shows me the places of advice in reconciliation

Me with a radiant face,

Between me and the face of a peer

واعتصامي بحرّة ذات حسن

واعتصامي بحرّة ذات حسن

وجمال مكنونة في الخدور

وجمال مكنونة في الخدور

And my taking refuge with a freeborn woman of loveliness

And my adherence to the freedom of essence of beauty

And beauty, secluded in curtained chambers.

And concealed perfection in the cheeks

قلت دعني ووحدتي وانفرادي
