سبحان من خلق العميان من نكد

سبحان من خلق العميان من نكد

واختصّهم بقبيح السخف والحسد

واختصّهم بقبيح السخف والحسد

Glory be to Him who created the blind from wretchedness,

Glory to Him who created the blind out of spite

And singled them out for vile folly and envy.

And endowed them with the ugliness of foolishness and envy

والشر فيهم وسوء الظن طبعهم

والشر فيهم وسوء الظن طبعهم

واللؤم والشؤم والإفساد في البلد

واللؤم والشؤم والإفساد في البلد

Evil is in them, and mistrust is their nature,

Evil is inherent in them and ill thoughts their nature

And baseness, ill omen, and spreading corruption in the land.

As well as villainy, ill omen and corruption in the land

كأنهم خلقوا غيظا لكل فتى

كأنهم خلقوا غيظا لكل فتى

في طبعه أدب موف على رشد

في طبعه أدب موف على رشد

As though they were created to vex every young man

It's as if they were created out of spite against every young man

Whose nature holds refinement rising above sound judgment.

Of good character and conduct, steadfast on the right path

إذا الضرير مشى أبصرت صاعقةً

إذا الضرير مشى أبصرت صاعقةً

كأنه أسد قد شدّ في مسَد

كأنه أسد قد شدّ في مسَد

When a blind man walks, you behold a thunderbolt,

When a blind man walks I see a lightning bolt

As though he were a lion bound with a palm-fiber rope.

As if he were a lion baring its fangs

لولا أناس من العميان قد درسوا

لولا أناس من العميان قد درسوا

آي القرآن وشدوا الدرس بالعدد

آي القرآن وشدوا الدرس بالعدد

Were it not for some among the blind who have studied

Were it not for some among the blind who studied

The verses of the Qur'an and reinforced their study by counting,

The verses of the Quran, reciting by rote

لقلت إنهم أولاد طاغية

لقلت إنهم أولاد طاغية

من الخوارج أو نفاثه العقد

من الخوارج أو نفاثه العقد

I would have said that they were children of a tyrant

I'd say they're the offspring of an oppressor

From among the Kharijites, or of a woman who blows on knots.

Among the dissenters, or the spitting of snakes
