إن جفّ فالماء به يبلّه

For the hungry, bread is relish through and through.

Bread suffices entirely for the hungry one

If it dries, he moistens it with water.

When dried, water moistens it

والملح أدم ليس من يملّه

يكفي الفتى من قلّة أقلّه

يكفي الفتى من قلّة أقلّه

And salt is a relish that no one tires of.

Salt suffices for one who does not tire of it

The least of little suffices a young man.

وحائط من مسجد يظلّه

وحائط من مسجد يظلّه

وكل عقد ليس من يحلّه

وكل عقد ليس من يحلّه

And a mosque wall gives him shade.

And a mosque wall that shades him

And every knot that no one can untie—

فالموت من بعد القوى يحلّه

فالموت من بعد القوى يحلّه

Death, once strength is gone, unties it.

For after strength, death comes to untie it
