تبارك الله للأيّام مختلف

في مرّها ولها يسرٌ وإعسار

Blessed is God! The days vary

In their passing, with ease and hardship:

عدل وجور وتفريق ومألفة

وقطع وصل ومكروه وإعذار

Justice and injustice, separation and fellowship,

And severing ties, misfortune, and pardon,

خير وشرذ وتأليف ومفترق

وقرب دار وإقرار وإنكار

Good and evil, union and separation,

And nearness of home, acknowledgment and denial.

من غالب الدهر كان الدهر غالبه

قسراً واللدهر إحلاء وإمرار

Whoever contends with time—time becomes his conqueror

By force; and time brings sweetness and bitterness.
