يجدي عليك إذا لم يجره القدر
Blessed be God! Neither prudence nor endurance
Blessings of God, neither zeal nor endurance
Avails you unless fate brings it to pass.
Will avail you if fate does not decree it

قد حالفته فلا طول ولا قصر
Ill luck struck my fortune with a calamity
Evil fortune has clearly marked my lot
That has already allied itself with it—neither length nor shortness.
Favoring it, neither length nor brevity

يشيد ملكهم الأتراك والخزر
I see men astride marked steeds;
I see men on saddled horses
The Turks and Khazars build up their dominion.
Their kingdom exalted by Turks and Khazars

They are awash in water; my house is desolate and dilapidated,
While I am drowned in poverty, my home desolate and disheveled
Its courtyards barren—no water and no rain.
The barrenness of poverty, neither rain nor water

I say while poverty grieves and wounds me
And deprivation flings me into the deep sea of thought:
And words hurl me into the abyss of thought

وتستوي حين لا وزر ولا وزر
My misery will perish, just as your bliss will perish,
My misery will end just as your bliss will
And all will be equal when there is neither burden nor refuge.
When there is neither burden nor load
