And I saw a wealthy man,

    practicing vile conduct,

putting on airs in his clothes,

casting glory aside and squandering it.

He walks and hitches up his clothes with both hands,

an obedient slave to his miserliness.

So I answered him with my inner thoughts,

if he were one to take heed and listen:

My Lord and your Lord are one,

and the earth bears us all,

and death deals fairly between us,

    whether slowly or swiftly.
