And a woman said: You have slept too long—pray!

For the suns have appeared out of the radiance.

So I told her: May you be bereaved! Why should I pray,

When I have awoken draped in my [rags?]?

Should I pray for property or estates,

Or the 'threatened' bedding and household goods,

    أم النجب الشهيّات السراع

    Or the Slav servants? Come, tell me;

Or the fine-bred, desirable, swift camels,

    Or the fine, marked horses,

Or the lovely, fair-eyed ones who enjoy patronage?

    Al-Daylami and Shirmardi pray,

And the holders of land grants and estates,

    And Lashkaruz, with Musa Babadha,

And Shashankir, whose command is obeyed,

    And Shasbala and Kharwad together,

And the owners of led mounts and horses.

And if the vizier prays, there is no harm,

Just as the vizier drank to music.

For that is a band upon whom was prescribed

Prayer—not upon the naked and hungry.
