beside an apricot of splendid yellow hue,

Next to an apricot of surpassing yellow

كأنّهما خدّ الحبيب مورّدا

كأنّهما خدّ الحبيب مورّدا

أضيفَ على وصل إلى خدّ عاشق

أضيفَ على وصل إلى خدّ عاشق

as though the two were the beloved’s rose-flushed cheek

As if they were the flushed cheeks of a lover

joined in union to a lover’s cheek.

Added to the cheek of one joined in love
