After I despaired of a treacherous companion,

لا نسيبي ولا خليطي ولكن

منّة من مهيمن جبّار

منّة من مهيمن جبّار

Neither my kinsman nor my close associate, but

He is neither my kinsman nor my associate, but

a grace from the All-Watchful, Almighty One.

a blessing from the Guardian, the All-Compelling.

كان عجزي عن القيام بشأني

كان عجزي عن القيام بشأني

وتأتيه لي على مقدار

وتأتيه لي على مقدار

My helplessness to manage my own affairs,

My inability to attend to my affairs

and my finding my way to him, were measured out.

and his resourcefulness on my behalf were in due measure.

رجل من بقيّة الأخيار

رجل من بقيّة الأخيار

A helpful, companionable man, gracious and loving—

Supportive, comforting, charming, affectionate—

a man from among the remnant of the virtuous.

فثنائي عليه ما عشت دهري

فثنائي عليه ما عشت دهري

ودعائي يتلوه بالأسحار

ودعائي يتلوه بالأسحار

So I shall praise him as long as I live,

So I shall praise him throughout my life,

and my prayers for him shall follow at predawn.

and my prayers follow that praise in the hours before dawn.
