وأحضرني على وعد طعامه

A friend of mine invited me and longed for my company,

And had me come on the promise of his meal.

And brought me for his promised meal

فطبنا يومنا ثمّ انصرفنا

وكانت دعوة في الدهر شامه

So we enjoyed our day, then departed;

We had our dinner then went apart

And the invitation was a beauty spot upon time.

It was an invite to remember for life

وصرت مؤرخا عنها وصارت

وصرت مؤرخا عنها وصارت

إلى يوم القيامه كالعلامه

إلى يوم القيامه كالعلامه

And I became its chronicler, and it became

I wrote it down as a memory

Like a landmark until the Day of Resurrection.

To last until Judgment Day as a sign

وكنت كباقة الريحان يلهى

بها وقتا وتطرح في القمامه

And I was like a bouquet of sweet basil: one takes pleasure

I was like a bouquet of basil

In it for a while, then it is thrown into the rubbish.

Played with for a while then tossed away
