عَذَّبتِyou tormented قَلبيmy heart بِالعِتابِwith reproach فَكُلَّماfor whenever
فَنِيَended العِتابُthe reproach بَدَأتِهِyou began it بِعِتابِwith reproach
You tormented my heart with reproach, for whenever
the reproach ended, you began it anew with reproach.
وَزَعَمتِand you claimed أَنّيthat I لاnot أُحِبُّكِlove you صادِقاًsincerely
وَاللَهُand God يَعلَمُknows ماwhat تُجِنُّconceal ثيابيmy garments
And you claimed that I do not love you sincerely,
yet God knows what my garments conceal.
لَولاwere it not for مَخافَةُfear أَنthat تُصيبَكِstrike you دَعوَتيmy curse
لَدَعَوتُI would have prayed ياO سَكَنيmy solace عَلىagainst الكَذّابِthe liar
Were it not for fear that my curse might strike you,
I would have cursed the liar, O my solace.
إِنif لَمnot يَكُنbe حُبّيكِmy love for you حُباًa love صادِقاًtrue
فَرَأَيتِنيthen may you see me أَعمىblind عَلىat الأَبوابِthe doors
If my love for you is not true love,
then may you see me blind at the doors.
