تَعَرَّضتِyou showed yourself ليto me حَتّىuntil إِذاwhen ماfor emphasis اِستَبَيتِنيyou took me captive
رَأَيتُكِI saw you تَختالينَyou walk proudly فيin صورَةِthe form of البَدرِthe full moon
You showed yourself to me until, when you had taken me captive,
You turned to me until when you saw me clearly
I saw you walking proudly in the likeness of the full moon.
I saw you gliding in the image of the full moon
صَدَدتِyou turned away فَماso did not هَنَّأتِنيyou let me enjoy مِنكِfrom you نَظرَةًa glance
إِلَيكِat you وَوارَتكِand concealed you الوَلائِدُthe maidservants بِالسَترِwith the curtain
You turned away, not letting me enjoy a glance
You frowned and your glance brought me no joy
At you, and the maidservants concealed you behind a curtain.
As shyness veiled you with cover
فَإِنso if لَمdid not تَرَيyou deem عَينَيَّmy two eyes أَهلاًworthy لِنَظرَةٍof a glance
إِلَيكِat you وَلَمand did not تَستَمسِكيyou hold fast بِعُرىto the bonds of الأَمرِthe affair
So if you do not deem my eyes worthy of a glance
If my eyes you see not worthy of a glance
At you, and do not hold fast to the bonds of our affair,
Towards you, not holding to the reins of the matter
فَكَمthen how often قَدindeed بَكَتwept عَينيmy eye عَلَيكِfor you وَعالَجَتand struggled with
مُقاساةَthe ordeal of طولِthe length of الليلِthe night بِالسُهدِin sleeplessness وَالذِكرِand remembrance
Then how often my eye has wept for you and struggled with
Then how much have my eyes wept over you
The ordeal of the long night, in sleeplessness and remembrance!
Enduring the night's length with wakefulness and remembrance
وَماand not تَشتَفيfind relief عَينايَmy two eyes مِنfrom دائِمِunceasing البُكاweeping
عَلَيكِfor you وَلوand even if أَنّيthat I بَكَيتُI wept إِلىuntil الحَشرِthe Resurrection
And my eyes find no relief in ceaseless weeping
And my eyes will not be quenched from the ever flowing tears
For you, even were I to weep until the Resurrection.
Over you, even if I cried until the day of resurrection
