لِأَعظَمِ حادِثٍ حُبِسَ الرَسولُ

لِأَعظَمِ حادِثٍ حُبِسَ الرَسولُ

وَأُمسِكَ عَنكَ وَاِنقَطَعَ الخَليلُ

وَأُمسِكَ عَنكَ وَاِنقَطَعَ الخَليلُ

Because of a most grievous calamity, the messenger was held back,

The Greatest Event impounded the Messenger

and kept from you, and the close friend has withdrawn.

And withheld you, even the Friend was cut off

فَلا كُتبٌ تُؤَدّي عَنكَ عُذراً

فَلا كُتبٌ تُؤَدّي عَنكَ عُذراً

وَلا أَحَدٌ يُؤَدّي ما تَقولُ

وَلا أَحَدٌ يُؤَدّي ما تَقولُ

So no letters convey an excuse from you,

So no books can offer excuse about you

nor does anyone convey what you say.

Nor can anyone convey what you say

فَمِنكِ بِكِ اِستَجَرتُ وَأَنتِ حَسَبي

فَمِنكِ بِكِ اِستَجَرتُ وَأَنتِ حَسَبي

وَشاهِدُ ما لَقيتُ بِكِ النُحولُ

وَشاهِدُ ما لَقيتُ بِكِ النُحولُ

So I sought refuge in you from you, and you are enough for me;

So in you, by you I sought refuge and you suffice me

and my emaciation bears witness to what I have suffered because of you.

And witness what hardship I met in you

خُذي بِالعَفوِ يا أَمَلي وَعودي

خُذي بِالعَفوِ يا أَمَلي وَعودي

عَلى مَن لا يَحولُ وَلا يَزولُ

عَلى مَن لا يَحولُ وَلا يَزولُ

Be forgiving, O my hope, and show kindness again

Take to pardoning, O my hope and promise me

to one who neither changes nor departs.

Upon One Who neither changes nor ceases
