Tell me about the Hijaz, for I

do not see myself tiring of the mention of the Hijaz.

And describe to me what lies between Buthan and the mosque,

what surrounds it and what lies alongside it.

Indeed, somewhere there is a person

who would soothe the one given a promise by fulfilling it.

That is Fawz—may God disgrace an old man

who came between me and her through shameful deeds.

So my suffering has lasted long since she left me,

and the daughters of my heart tremble.

And my tears have worn away the luster of my face,

and my heart is like a rider passing through.

    She appeared among bashful maidens,

    with heavy haunches and buttocks.

And Fawz longed to meet me, while before me lay

desert wastes where wild antelopes lose their way.

So they made themselves weep, then said, sincerely

praying for her, not in jest:

May God unite Fawz and Abbas,

so they may both live in happiness and pride.
