تَموتُdie النُفوسُsouls بِآجالِهاat their appointed times
تَموتُ النُفوسُ بِآجالِها
وَنَفسيand my soul تَموتُdies بِغيرِwithout الأَجلthe appointed time
وَنَفسي تَموتُ بِغيرِ الأَجل
Souls die at their appointed times,
Souls die at their appointed times,
But my soul dies before its appointed time.
But my soul dies before its time.
أُعَذِّبُI torment نَفسيmy soul بِهِجرانِهاby staying away from her
أُعَذِّبُ نَفسي بِهِجرانِها
أَخافُI fear إِذاif زُرتُهاI visit her أَنthat تَمَلّshe grows weary
أَخافُ إِذا زُرتُها أَن تَمَلّ
I torment my soul by staying away from her;
I torment my soul by staying away,
I fear that if I visit her, she will tire of me.
Yet I fear she'll grow bored if I pay her a visit.
