One free of love is not like one tormented,

Who has not passed an evening free of love's heat.

Love is affliction enough, for love has brought

Me, O Muhammad, to affliction's furthest limit.

Love has left your brother a parched soul,

Weary, and a gaunt, wasted body.

And if exhaustion reaches its utmost in its sufferers

One day, the illness of love's companion is the most grievous.
