ياO أَيُّهاyou (vocative) المَحمومُfever-stricken one نَفسيmy soul فِداكa ransom for you
هَلis there? ليfor me مِنَfrom الدُنياthe world سُرورٌjoy سِواكother than you
O fever-stricken one, may my soul be your ransom.
O my troubled soul, I sacrifice myself for you
Have I any joy in this world other than you?
Is there in this life any delight for me but you?
قَدalready كانَwas بيin me سُقمٌillness فَقَدand indeed زادَنيhas added to me
سُقمُكَyour illness سُقماًillness وَبلاياand afflictions دِراكfollowing one another
I was already ill; now I am further burdened
I was already sick, yet your sickness
By your illness with more sickness and successive afflictions.
Has added more sickness and afflictions upon me
فَلَيتَنيso, if only I حُمِّلتُI was made to bear ذاكَthat الَّذيwhich
تَلقىyou endure لِكَيso that أَجمَعَI may combine هَذاthis وَذاكand that
So, if only I were made to bear what
I wish I was bearing that which you are going through
You endure, so I might bring this and that together.
So I could gather this and that
أَنتَyou لَعَمريby my life عارِفٌaware أَنَّنيthat I
لاnot أَجِدُI find الراحَةَrest حَتّىuntil أَراكI see you
You know, by my life, that I
You know for sure that I
Find no rest until I see you.
Cannot find peace until I see you
عَذَّبتَyou tormented بِالجَفوَةِwith coldness قَلبيmy heart فَلَوso if
تَكَلَّمَspoke القَلبُthe heart بِشَيءٍof anything شَكاكit would complain of you
You tormented my heart with coldness; so, if
You have tormented my heart with aloofness, if only
The heart spoke at all, it would complain of you.
The heart could speak, it would complain about you
