كانَwas خُروجيmy departure مِنfrom عِندِكُمyour presence قَدراًfate
وَحادِثاًand an event مِنamong حَوادِثِevents الزَمَنِtime
My departure from your presence was fated,
My leaving you was destined
And an event among the events of time,
An event in the events of time
مِنfrom قَبلِbefore أَنto أَعرِضَI present الفِراقَthe parting عَلىto
قَلبيmy heart وَأَنand to اِستَعِدَّprepare لِلحَزَنِfor sorrow
Before I could lay parting before
Before separation presented itself
My heart and prepare for sorrow.
To my heart and prepared it for sorrow
لاno شَيءَthing أَشفىmore healing فيماamong what سَمِعتُI have heard بِهِof it
مِنthan سَكَنٍa beloved يَشتَكيconfides grief إِلىto سَكَنِa beloved
Nothing, of all I have heard of, is more healing
Nothing I heard comforting me
Than one beloved confiding grief to another.
Like a dwelling complaining to a dwelling
