Indeed, the harshest affliction is your loving someone

whose love is occupied with another.

We owe only graciousness, and nothing

befits you, O cruel one, but graciousness.

We did not intend what you dislike, but

the lover has grown mistrustful, so he says:

I have committed no sin that I should seek God's forgiveness,

yet the beloved has shown coldness.

If only I knew: has weariness crept into him,

or have incitement and goading overtaken him?
