لِهَيبَةِout of awe of مَنthe one whom يَهواهُhe loves ماتَdied مِنَfrom الغَمِّgrief
لِهَيبَةِ مَن يَهواهُ ماتَ مِنَ الغَمِّ
If one who loves conceals his love
If the one I love conceals his love
Out of awe of the one he loves, he dies of grief.
Fearing whom he loves, he'll die of sorrow
سَأُضمِرُI shall conceal صَبريmy patience عَنكِfrom you (feminine) لاnot عَنout of تَجَلُّدِfortitude
سَأُضمِرُ صَبري عَنكِ لا عَن تَجَلُّدِ
وَلَكِنَّنيbut I أَطويI fold away ضَميريmy innermost feelings عَلىunder رُغَمِcompulsion
وَلَكِنَّني أَطوي ضَميري عَلى رُغَمِ
I shall conceal my patience from you—not out of fortitude,
I'll hide my patience from you, not from composure
But I fold away my innermost feelings against my will.
But I'll fold my conscience though against my will
