أَضِنُّI begrudge عَنfrom الدُنياthe world بِطَرفيmy gaze وَطَرفِهاand her gaze
أَضِنُّ عَن الدُنيا بِطَرفي وَطَرفِها
فَهَلso is there بَعدَafter هَذاthis مِنany مَقالٍword لِمُشفِقِfor a concerned well-wisher
فَهَل بَعدَ هَذا مِن مَقالٍ لِمُشفِقِ
I jealously withhold from the world my gaze and hers;
I begrudge the world my gaze and hers.
after this, is there anything left for an anxious lover to say?
So after this, what can a concerned well-wisher say?
أَلاAh! لَيتَناif only we نَعمىwe go blind إِذاwhen حيلَa barrier is placed بَينَناbetween us
أَلا لَيتَنا نَعمى إِذا حيلَ بَينَنا
وَتُجلىand is made clear لَناto us أَبصارُناour sight حينَwhen نَلتَقيwe meet
وَتُجلى لَنا أَبصارُنا حينَ نَلتَقي
Ah, would that we went blind whenever we were kept apart,
Ah, if only we were blind when kept apart,
and that our sight were restored whenever we meet.
And our sight were restored to us when we meet.
