غَضِبتُI grew angry عَلَيكِwith you سَيِّدَتيmy lady
غَضِبتُ عَلَيكِ سَيِّدَتي
وَماand what لِلعَبدِfor the slave وَالغَضَبِand anger
وَما لِلعَبدِ وَالغَضَبِ
I grew angry with you, my lady;
but what has a slave to do with anger?
هَجَرتُكِI forsook you عادياًoverstepping طَوريmy bounds
هَجَرتُكِ عادياً طَوري
فَلَمso not أَرشُدI acted wisely وَلَمand not أُصِبِI did right
فَلَم أَرشُد وَلَم أُصِبِ
I forsook you, overstepping my bounds,
so I neither acted wisely nor did right.

Indeed, by God, Lord of the House,
and of the curtains and the veils,

the world has indeed grown sweet through you;
and but for you, it would not be sweet.
