لَعَمري لَقَد جَلَبت نَظرَتي

لَعَمري لَقَد جَلَبت نَظرَتي

إِلَيكِ عَلَيَّ بَلاءً طَويلا

إِلَيكِ عَلَيَّ بَلاءً طَويلا

By my life, my glance has indeed brought

By my life, your glance has brought upon me

Long affliction upon me through looking at you.

Great affliction and trials prolonged,

فَيا وَيحَ مَن كَلِفَت نَفسُهُ

فَيا وَيحَ مَن كَلِفَت نَفسُهُ

بِمَن لا يُطيقُ إِلَيهِ سَبيلا

بِمَن لا يُطيقُ إِلَيهِ سَبيلا

So alas for him whose soul is enamored

Woe to him who burdens himself

Of one to whom he can find no way.

With one who finds no path to him.

هِيَ الشَمسُ مَسكَنُها في السَماءِ

هِيَ الشَمسُ مَسكَنُها في السَماءِ

فَعَزِّ الفُؤادَ عَزاءً جَميلا

فَعَزِّ الفُؤادَ عَزاءً جَميلا

She is the sun; her dwelling is in the sky.

It is the sun whose dwelling is the sky,

So console the heart with gentle consolation.

So comfort your heart with solace fair.

فَلَن تَستَطيعَ إِلَيها الصُعودَ

فَلَن تَستَطيعَ إِلَيها الصُعودَ

وَلَن تَستَطيعَ إِلَيكَ النُزولا

وَلَن تَستَطيعَ إِلَيكَ النُزولا

For you will never be able to ascend to her,

You'll never scale the heights to reach her,

And she will never be able to descend to you.

Nor will she ever descend to you.
