And a woman full of لَومٍreproach عَتَبَتshe reproached فيconcerning الَّتيthe woman whom
أَصبَحتُI have become مِنfrom وَجديmy passionate longing بِهاfor her مُرمَضاscorched
And a reproachful woman chided me about the one
The blamer's rebuke within her I've become sick with passion for
for whom I have become scorched with longing.
Then settled to sleep for the night as my yearning for her grew stronger
ثُمَّthen اِنتَهَتshe reached the end راقِدَةًasleep لَيلَهاher night
وَأَلفَتِand she found النَومَsleep لَهاto her مُعرِضاoffering itself
Then she reached the end of her night asleep,
While she fell asleep peacefully, to slumber turning away
and found sleep offering itself to her.
My eyes cannot rest for desire though tightly shut they stay
وَلَستُand I am not أُغفيdozing off إِنَّindeed كَفَّthe palm الهَوىlove
تَطرِفُstrikes طَرفيmy eye كُلَّماwhenever غَمَّضاit closes
And I do not doze, for the palm of love
strikes my eye whenever it closes.
