إِذا لانَ الصَفا عَن طولِ نَحتٍ

إِذا لانَ الصَفا عَن طولِ نَحتٍ

فَإِنَّ صَفاةَ تَغلِبَ لا تَلينُ

فَإِنَّ صَفاةَ تَغلِبَ لا تَلينُ

If smooth rock yields after prolonged chiseling,

the rock of Taghlib does not yield.

إِذا قُذِفَت نَبا الجُلمودُ عَنها

إِذا قُذِفَت نَبا الجُلمودُ عَنها

وَأَطَّت صَخرَةٌ فيها زُبونُ

وَأَطَّت صَخرَةٌ فيها زُبونُ

When it is pelted, the boulder rebounds from it,

and a fiercely resisting rock within it groans.

فَقَبلَكَ رامَها الجَبّارُ فينا

فَقَبلَكَ رامَها الجَبّارُ فينا

فَكانَ لَنا وَلِلجَبّارِ دينُ

فَكانَ لَنا وَلِلجَبّارِ دينُ

For before you, the tyrant sought to overcome it among us,

and there was a reckoning for us and for the tyrant.
