أَراحَ اللَهُ عَبدَ القَيسِ مِنّا

أَراحَ اللَهُ عَبدَ القَيسِ مِنّا

وَنَحنُ كَذاكَ مِنهُم نَستَريحُ

وَنَحنُ كَذاكَ مِنهُم نَستَريحُ

God has relieved ʿAbd al-Qays of us,

God gave relief to Abdel-Qays from us,

And we likewise find relief from them.

Just as we seek relief from them.

قُبَيِّلَةٌ تَرَدَّدُ في مَعَدٍّ

قُبَيِّلَةٌ تَرَدَّدُ في مَعَدٍّ

كَأَنَّ فُساءَها في الطَفِّ ريحُ

كَأَنَّ فُساءَها في الطَفِّ ريحُ

A petty little tribe roaming among Maʿadd,

An oft defeated tribe in Ma'add wander,

As though its farting at al-Ṭaff were a wind.

As if the stink of their dead fills the plains.
