The ship of the eye has escaped drowning,
The ship of the eye has escaped drowning
And shines resplendent from the shore of the pupils.
And shone, becoming more beautiful, from the coast of the eyelid

And its laughing light appears, its nails
When the dawn of clarity breathed forth from twilight.
As the dawn of morning breathed from the horizon

Love has gathered the beloved it protects
From slanderers, by the Lord of light and daybreak.
From the wicked, by the Lord of the light and daybreak

So, O rulers of love, my passion lies in your truthfulness,
So O rulers of love in your sincerity my passion
For I have not recovered from passion’s bewilderment.
As I from the madness of ecstasy have not yet awoken

By beauty’s Kaaba, I see a pupil; they examined
With the Kaaba of beauty I see a human being so radiant
My eye, which so long went astray because of darkness.
My eyes which for so long were lost in the darkness

To a lovesick one whom separation struck with sleeplessness?
For a desperate lover separated by sadness

Greetings, my light, so gentle in description
After my despair and long fear and dread.
After my despair and prolonged fear and separation

So, O greetings of recovery, whose honey in my mouth
With what words can I greet him and his dignity
Sweetened the bitterness of my sleeplessness from anxiety.
Has triumphed, and did not attain for one hurrying

Has had his dwellings in the tenderness of the pupils.
God does not forsake the abundant kindness

Pupil of my eye, whom I would ransom, you have shone within it;
I have accepted the poison in my sickness and
May God never leave me bereft of your abundant kindness.
My nights have left me in need of every misery

I swore, when I was given poison to drink in my illness,
I do not complain of my pain except to he who
And its nights left me in need of every wretched soul,
In every injustice remained with eyes shedding tears
لاnot أَشتَكيI complain of لَوعَتيmy anguish اِلّاexcept لِمَنto the one who هُوَhe ليfor me

To complain of my anguish only to the one who, for me,
And you were granted with a light derived from you
Remained in the eyes through every injustice.

And you have been granted light borrowed from you;
The nights of my affliction turned from passion and hope
My oath was fulfilled, and truth stood behind me.
And carried burdens upon my neck

The nights of my affliction grew weary of anguish and [unclear],
They led my reins to the cave of sickness and leaned
And loaded me with burdens upon my neck.
At its door for months, I could not bear it

They led my rein to the cave of illness and leaned
As if it were harm that harmed it, in nearness to you
Against its door for months that dragged on, so I could bear no more.
So it crossed the worst roads

As though they were a rival wife hurt by my ease
Does it intend to purify the hatred of its concealment
In nearness to you, and so traveled the worst paths.
With tears pouring from the depths

So did they intend to cleanse the grudges they concealed
When I cried for the grace of God, he made easy for me
Through trails of tears pouring from the corners of the eyes?
Kohl of patience that relieved me of anxiety

When I sought aid through God’s grace, He made available to me
May God return to you the light of the two tender ones
Applications of patience’s kohl that freed me from anxiety.
Without you, a guide never brought certainty

And God restored you, light of the two eyes, to
How my bone was shattered by sickness leaving me
A lovesick one who never trusted any guide but you.

كاثمد لِعُيون العَينِ منسحق
How often my bones were crushed by illnesses that left me
How I said in my tribulation, O Lord, take my hand
Like antimony, ground to powder for the eyes of the wide-eyed.
And heal my illness, and relieve the insomnia

وَاِكشِف سَقامي وَجد بِالنَومِ للارق
How often I said in my ordeal: O Lord, take my hand,
So with gratitude I acknowledged the small ones
And lift my sickness, and grant sleep to the sleepless.
To my Creator, the two moons did not clear on the horizon

So with the two little ones I offer thanks, in grateful acknowledgment,
To my Creator, as long as the two full moons shine clear on the horizon.
