كَمhow often قُلتَyou said ياO حُلوsweet الخِضابthe dye
كَم قُلتَ يا حُلو الخِضاب
داوِheal المُتَيَّمthe lovesick one بِالرِضابwith sweet saliva
داوِ المُتَيَّم بِالرِضاب
How often you have said, O sweetly dyed one:
How sweet the henna dye, I've often heard you say
Heal the lovesick one with sweet saliva,
As balm is spread to soothe the blows of sorrow's day
وَاِسمَحand allow لِصبكto your ardent lover بِاِقتِرابto draw near
وَاِسمَح لِصبك بِاِقتِراب
ماnot ليfor me سِوىexcept هذاthis دَواa cure
ما لي سِوى هذا دَوا
And let your ardent lover draw near—
Allow your lover's longing pleas to find their way
I have no cure but this.
This cure alone can heal my heart, I pray
