You are Eid when success is your ally,

And you are Eid through sincerity and faith.

You fasted, and the life of fasting was an experience

Of devotion to religion, morals, and homelands.

And today Eid congratulated you and blessed you,

As a gardener blesses a plant that has flourished.

Eid is jubilant, for your brotherhood has become

Proud of you after sorrows and grief.

And Eid is intoxicated by a faith that unites you,

Like love's flame, giving drink to every spiritual soul.

You fasted from evil and hatred in an age

When minds ran wild and we were threatened with aggression.

Chanting the wisest of the verses,

To honor thought and do justice to humankind.

You fasted as a model of the equality that was sought,

And is still sought through ages upon ages.

And your breaking of the fast came to signify your victory,

And your Eid celebration came as the crowning of goodness.

Blessed are you, O nations of Islam, among nations

That recognize no partners to the True One and the Judge,

Nor in their principle of rule, standing firm,

As though it were a second religion to them.

This Book of yours is justice without equal,

And that covenant of yours rejects all tyranny.

And that history of yours, fragrant with life-stories

That journeyed with knowledge and forbearance as riders journey.

The sources of inspiration endure after revelation,

As visions, a melody, and colors for an artist,

And the wellspring of lofty literature for one who knows it,

And the dawning of knowledge for one who hopes for understanding.

Who can surpass a heritage whose essence is not

The property of an age, nor the dominion of a sultan?

Guard it, guard it from those who destroyed nations

Through their guile, or through aggression and flames.

And welcome Eid in full freedom:

How far apart are free people and slaves!
