ولا التغني بإنصافِ الملايينِ
The first thrust on the day of vengeance does not suffice me,
Not enough for me the first stab on vengeance day,
nor does singing of justice for the millions.
Nor singing justice for the millions.

Around me are tears and fires set ablaze,
Around me, tears and raging fires,
though I have gone far away; and thousands of sacrificial victims
Even if I avoid them, and thousands of sacrifices.

وبلبلتني بصيحاتِ المجانين
have assailed me in my wakefulness and in my drowsiness,
In my consciousness and years they alarmed me,
and bewildered me with the cries of the mad—
And confused me with the screams of the insane,

the hungry, the naked, whom nothing covers
The starving naked, none covers them,
but wounds and the bites of devils;
Except wounds and bites of demons.

the resentful, to whom no one listens
The angry whom no one listens to,
but ruin and the lowly dwelling;
Except ruin and except the lowly home.

The confused in shackles who envied
in the prison of their souls, all the prisoners;
In their soul's prison all prisoners.

those bearing on their shoulders, for ages,
Those carrying for eras,
the treachery of despots and the filth of sultans;
The treachery of tyrants and filth of Sultans.

Those wandering vainly with no return,
the abasement of brows nor the misery of the poor;
The humiliation of foreheads and misery of the poor.

the lost, as though time had omitted them
The lost as if time had neglected them,
from all its reckoning, without proof;
Without any of its calculations or proof.

those reaping people's hypocrisy as commendation,
Those who won people's hypocrisy as praise
and their hurtful reminders of favors as fragrant flowers of every kind;
And were harmed by the evils of various winds.

My people's sons, whom I have not outstripped in aspiration
My people's sons whom greed did not tempt
except through noble vengeance in my collected verse,
Except with noble revenge in my poems.

From every house embers are its miracle,
and light its proof throughout all time.
And light its proof throughout the times.

If it escapes the hearing of those heedlessly lost in their diversions,
If the sublime's hearing is preoccupied with their vanity
and who have known poetry as confined to melodies,
And they knew poetry limited prosaic,

Then its revolt will overwhelm illusions
over error, over the falsifying of the scales;
Over misguidance, over the injustice of scales.

And stones will roar its scream
until they fly as even peregrine falcons cannot.
Until birds, even birds of prey, will fly.

It will destroy tyrant and powerful,
the worst of serpents—nay, all serpents.
The evils of serpents, even all serpents.

The first thrust on the day of vengeance is of no avail
Not enough the first stab on vengeance day,
if it is not made universal to save the millions.
Unless to save the millions.
