O conductor, when you gesture, you bring to life

    Meanings anointed with melodies.

As though your baton were a daughter of Moses’ staff,

Dripping with every hue of life.

And you are not an arranger of melodies, but

    Their painter for supplicant dreams.

You gesture and release the melodies in ecstasy,

Though they had lain asleep like embryos.

And we hear them as wooing and whispered confidences,

    And as pensive, dancing phantoms,

    And sometimes as wondrous scenes,

And the phases of battles and death.

Though the artist may be allotted a single world,

Yet your spirit is spread through immortal works.

And my reverent gaze upon you,

Before these miracles, is nothing but my prayer.
