I do not accept it for you, nor am I content with you.

I do not approve of it for you, nor do I please you,

For independence is life so long as it gives you life.

And the life of independence does not sustain you,

هو خطوة عرجاء مهما حبّذت

فدعوا المحبذ أن يكون سواكمو

It is a limping step, however much it is praised.

It is a lame step no matter how much you praise it,

So let its admirer be someone other than you.

So let the praiser be but yourself.

إن القيود وإن تفك ثقيلة

فلتطرحوها طرح من عاداكمو

Chains are heavy, even when unfastened;

The shackles, even if heavy when undone,

So cast them off as you would an enemy.

Cast them off with the gesture of one who opposes you.

ودعوا الرصاص ينام عاما واحدا

حتى يجلجل بعد ذاك نداكمو

And let the bullets sleep for a single year,

Until your call resounds after that.

So that after that your calls ring loud.

Do not think the misguided man has become a guide;

لكنه احترف الدعارة فاغتدى

But he made prostitution his trade and became

But he has mastered prostitution so he transgressed,

The one you see, as though he had enriched you.

You see him as if he has sung to you.

لا غنم للأوطان حين عداتكم

ساداتكم وإذا الفتات غذاكمو

ساداتكم وإذا الفتات غذاكمو

There is no gain for homelands when your enemies

No gains for homelands when your masters have rebelled against you

Are your masters, and when crumbs feed you.

And when the crumbs have fed you.

أهل الحضارة من قديم أنتمو

أهل الحضارة من قديم أنتمو

فمن الدعي ليستبيح علاكمو

فمن الدعي ليستبيح علاكمو

Since ancient times, you have been a civilized people.

The civilized people you have been since old,

Then who is this pretender to profane your glory?

So who is the impudent one to make lawful your ornaments?

أيقال إنكمو محط حماية

أيقال إنكمو محط حماية

لهوانكم فمن الذي أدناكمو

لهوانكم فمن الذي أدناكمو

Can it be said that you are placed under protection

Is it said you are a shelter of protection

For your lowliness? Who, then, has brought you low?

For your submission, so who has approached you?

حاشا وربي أنكم ساداتهم

حاشا وربي أنكم ساداتهم

لو ينصفون رجالكم ونساكمو

لو ينصفون رجالكم ونساكمو

Never, by my Lord! You are their masters,

God forbid you are their masters

Were they fair to your men and women.

If they were equitable to your men and women.

لا بد في الغد من قيام جموعكم

لا بد في الغد من قيام جموعكم

لحسابهم إن يومكم أنساكمو

لحسابهم إن يومكم أنساكمو

Tomorrow your multitudes must rise

There must be in the tomorrow a rising of your groups

To call them to account, if your present day has made you forget.

To settle accounts with them if their day has made you forget.

سرق الغشوم بلادكم وإذا به

سرق الغشوم بلادكم وإذا به

صار الوصي عليكم لأذاكموا

صار الوصي عليكم لأذاكموا

The ruthless tyrant stole your country, and behold,

The dishonest have stolen your countries, and there he is,

He became your guardian, to do you harm.

He has become the trustee over you to bother you.

أو أنتمو من يستنيم لمكره

أو أنتمو من يستنيم لمكره

حاشا وبين جموعكم شهداكمو

حاشا وبين جموعكم شهداكمو

Or are you those who yield trustfully to his guile?

Or is it you who becomes drowsy to his cunning?

Never, with your martyrs among your multitudes.

God forbid, and between your groups are your martyrs.
