They offered safety to the thoughts,

And paraded the swaying, dusky ones.

    So I stood wary, yet

the heart would do nothing but take risks.

O heart, have your way with love:

these are the branches, and you are a bird.

    Indeed, she who ensnared you—

    eyes bring hearts to her.

O mouth of hers, I have become like a

    diver, dreaming of jewels.

O glance of hers, who is her mother,

or who her father, among the wild-ox calves?

O hair of hers, do not strive

to lay me bare, for the night's way is to conceal.

O figure of hers, how long will you

go forth reproaching and return unjust?

And for what sin have you pierced

my heart, O figure of grave sins?
