يَقولُ أُناسُ لَو وَصَفتَ لَنا الهَوى

يَقولُ أُناسُ لَو وَصَفتَ لَنا الهَوى

لَعَلَّ الَّذي لا يَعرِفُ الحُبَّ يَعرِفُ

لَعَلَّ الَّذي لا يَعرِفُ الحُبَّ يَعرِفُ

Some people say, “If only you would describe passion to us,

People say, "If only you would describe love to us,

perhaps one who does not know love would come to know it.”

Perhaps the one who does not know love may come to know it."

فَقُلتُ لَقَد ذُقتُ الهَوى ثُمَّ ذُقتُهُ

فَقُلتُ لَقَد ذُقتُ الهَوى ثُمَّ ذُقتُهُ

فَوَ اللَهِ ما أَدري الهَوى كَيفَ يوصَفُ

فَوَ اللَهِ ما أَدري الهَوى كَيفَ يوصَفُ

So I said, “I have indeed tasted passion, then tasted it again;

So I said, "Indeed I have tasted love, and then I tasted it again.

so, by God, I do not know how passion can be described.”

By God, I do not know how love can be described!"
