واذكر مقامك بيننا الأعواما

Go in safety, bearing our sighs,

And remember through the years your stay among us.

And remember your years of residence among us.

واذكر حكاية دنشواى فإنها

كم خلّفت بين الربوع يتامى

كم خلّفت بين الربوع يتامى

Remember the tale of Dinshaway, for it

And remember the story of Dinshaway, for it

Left so many orphans throughout the land.

Left so many orphans among the homesteads.

واعلم بأنك قد أهنت ديانة

واعلم بأنك قد أهنت ديانة

كم أخضعت لنبيها الأفهاما

كم أخضعت لنبيها الأفهاما

And know that you have insulted a faith

And know that you have dishonored a faith

That has humbled so many minds before its Prophet.

That made so many minds submit to its Prophet.

هل ينكر الأقوام أن محمدا

هل ينكر الأقوام أن محمدا

ملأ الوجود وسلاما

ملأ الوجود وسلاما

Can any people deny that Muhammad

Do the peoples deny that Muhammad

Filled all existence with peace?

Filled existence with peace?

إن كنت تجهل أمره فسل الورى

إن كنت تجهل أمره فسل الورى

وسل الورجود بل اسأل الأياما

وسل الورجود بل اسأل الأياما

If you know nothing of his cause, then ask mankind;

If you do not know his story, then ask humankind,

Ask existence itself—nay, ask the ages.

And ask existence—rather, ask the days.

كم كان قبلك من دعىّ يرتجى

كم كان قبلك من دعىّ يرتجى

طمس الضياء فما أصاب مراما

طمس الضياء فما أصاب مراما

How many pretenders before you hoped

How many a pretender before you hoped

To blot out the light, yet never gained their aim.

To blot out the light, yet failed to attain his aim.

مدنيةً الدينا أجيبي جاهلا

مدنيةً الدينا أجيبي جاهلا

أَوليس واضع أسك الإسلاما

أَوليس واضع أسك الإسلاما

O civilization of the world, answer an ignorant man:

O civilization of the world, answer an ignorant man:

Was it not Islam that laid your foundation?

And is it not Islam that laid your foundation?

لكنما الأغراض تعمى أهلها

لكنما الأغراض تعمى أهلها

حتى يروا ضوء النهار ظلاما

حتى يروا ضوء النهار ظلاما

Yet vested interests blind those they possess

But ulterior motives blind those who harbor them,

Until they see the light of day as darkness.

Until they see the light of day as darkness.

هذا ختامك بين قوم أحسنوا

هذا ختامك بين قوم أحسنوا

لك صنعهم أحسِن بذاك ختاما

لك صنعهم أحسِن بذاك ختاما

This is your end among a people who were kind

This is your ending among a people who were kind

In all they did for you—what a splendid ending!

In their dealings with you—what a fine ending!
