O spreader of knowledge in this land,
O spreader of knowledge in this land
May you succeed; spreading knowledge is like jihad.
May spreading knowledge be like holy war

With knowledge people excelled in their time
And pierced the seven mighty, tiered heavens.
And penetrated the seven solid heavens

Can glory be sought, and eminence pursued,
Does a people seek glory and highness
By a people among whom the market for learning languishes?
While the market of knowledge among them is stagnant?

The critic of your deeds raises their worth;
Critics of your work are biased
When pearls grow dear, criticism grows dear.
When pearls are expensive, appraisal is distorted

How hard is the deed for one who aspires it
And how easy speech for one who wishes!
And how easy is empty talk for one who desires it

Be just over what was your kindness
For bounty, if distributed justly, increases.
For if distributed justly, favor increases

My school was an orchard of decency
The abode of knowledge, the home of right guidance.
Abode of mystic knowledge, home of guidance

Yielding to it the reins of learning.
Tossing the lead rope of knowledge toward it

And my today is al-Qubba, with its pillars.
While my today is the domed edifice

Were it not for the glory of my verdant olive trees,
Had not my olive tree's sheen been glossy
The Lord of His servants would not have sworn by the olive.
The Lord of worshipers had not sworn by the olive

If offspring have eluded you, how fine they are!
If progeny escape you, then honor them
And many an offspring is gained through generosity.
And offspring are often gained from dew

That gathers them at dawn and dusk wandering

For a glance from you grants what is desired.
For a glance from you grants the wish

In the generosity of their palms, are like showers of recurring rain.
In bounty's path like racing steeds

Save a generous giver like his generous father
