O sail gliding beyond the Tigris,

In my tears—may misfortunes spare you.

Go gently upon the water, like Christ,

And glide through the sea like a guiding ray.

And reach a plain as pleasant as Heaven's carpet,

Or like its Paradise in a valley's gladness.

Stop, linger, and secure safety for my heart

From the oryxes' eyes beyond the Sawad.

And al-Nuwasi and the boon companions—is there among them

A night reveler who fills the darkness, or a gathering?

The colts pranced over it, galloping

In the dust of fathers and forefathers.

A nation brings life into being and builds

Glories as its forefathers built them,

Beneath a crown of kinship and kingship,

Upon the head of a magnanimous, generous man,

King of the Shatt, the Tigris and Euphrates, and the Batha—

How great are Faisal and the land!
