لَمdid not يَتَّفِقoccur مِمّاamong what جَرىhappened فيaboard المَركَبِthe ark
كَكَذِبِlike the lies of القِردِthe monkey عَلىto نوحِNoah النَبيthe prophet
Nothing that happened aboard the ark was
What happened on the ship did not align,
like the monkey's lies to Noah the prophet.
With the lies of the ape against Prophet Noah.
فَإِنَّهُfor he كانَwas بِأَقصىat the far end of السَطحِthe deck
فَاِشتاقَso he longed مِنout of خِفَّتِهِhis frivolity لِلمَزحِfor joking
For he was at the far end of the deck,
For he was at the farthest edge of the deck,
so, in his frivolity, he longed to play a prank.
Yearning lightheartedly to jest.
وَصاحَand he cried ياO لِلطَيرِto the birds وَالأَسماكِand the fish
لِمَوجَةٍagainst a wave تَجِدُّstrives فيfor هَلاكيmy destruction
And he cried, "Birds and fish, help me
He cried, “O birds and fish!
against a wave bent on destroying me!"
For a wave that would bring about my demise.”
فَبَعَثَso he sent النَبيthe prophet لَهُto him النُسوراthe vultures
فَوَجَدَتهُand they found him لاهِياًat play مَسروراhappy
So the prophet sent the vultures to him,
So the Prophet sent him eagles,
and they found him at play and happy.
And they found him playing, delighted.
ثُمَّthen أَتىhe came ثانِيَةًa second time يَصيحُshouting
قَدindeed ثُقِبَتhas been pierced مَركَبُناour ark ياO نوحُNoah
Then he came a second time, shouting,
Then again he screamed,
"Our ark has been pierced, O Noah!"
“Our ship is punctured, O Noah!”
فَأَرسَلَso he sent النَبِيُّthe prophet كُلَّall مَنwho حَضَرwas present
فَلَمbut ... did not يَرَواthey see كَماas رَأىsaw القِردُthe monkey خَطَرdanger
So the prophet sent everyone who was there,
So the Prophet sent all who were present,
but they saw no danger such as the monkey had seen.
But they did not see the danger the ape saw.
وَبَينَماand while السَفيهُthe fool يَوماًone day يَلعَبُwas playing
جادَتgave freely بِهِwith him عَلىto المِياهِthe waters المَركَبُthe ark
And one day, while the fool was playing,
While the fool was playing one day,
the ark gave him up to the waters.
The ship sailed away with him on the water.
فَسَمِعوهُso they heard him فيin الدُجىthe darkness يَنوحُwailing
يَقولُsaying إِنّيindeed I am هالِكٌperishing ياO نوحُNoah
Then they heard him wailing in the darkness,
They heard him in the dark lamenting,
saying, "I am perishing, O Noah!
Saying, “I am lost, O Noah!”
سَقَطتُI fell مِنbecause of حَماقَتيmy foolishness فيinto الماءِthe water
وَصِرتُand I became بَينَbetween الأَرضِthe earth وَالسَماءِand the sky
I fell into the water through my foolishness,
“I have fallen in the water from my folly,
and now I am between earth and sky!"
And am now between the earth and sky.”
فَلَمso ... did not يُصَدِّقbelieve أَحَدٌanyone صِياحَهhis cries
وَقيلَand it was said حَقّاًtruly هَذِهِthis وَقاحَهimpudence
So no one believed his cries,
But no one believed his screaming,
and it was said, "This is sheer impudence!"
And it was said, “This is true impudence!”
قَدindeed قالَsaid فيin هَذاthis المَقامِcontext مَنone who سَبَقcame before
أَكذبُmost false ماwhen يُلفيis deemed الكَذوبُthe habitual liar إِنif صَدَقhe tells the truth
One who came before has said in this regard:
One who preceded said in this regard,
"A habitual liar is deemed most false when he tells the truth."
“The greater the liar's lie, even if he speaks the truth.”
مَنwhoever كانَis مَمنُوّاًafflicted بِداءِwith the disease of الكَذِبِlying
لاdoes not يَترُكُleave alone اللَهَGod وَلاnor يُعفيspare نَبيa prophet
Whoever is afflicted with the disease of lying
He whom the vice of lying has possessed,
spares neither God nor any prophet.
God does not forgive, nor does the Prophet absolve.
