    وخذ واد حمّانا

    وجدت القاع آذانا

    you find the valley floor all ears.

  5. تراه في الضحى ماسا

    وفي الآصال عقبانا

    You see it as a diamond at midmorning,

    and as eagles in the late afternoons.

  6. وطير العشق لا يأوى

    سوى الشاغور بستانا

    And the birds of love take no refuge

    in any garden but Shaghour.

  7. فما حلّق أو صفق

    إلا اصطاد إنسانا

    For never do they soar or beat their wings

    without capturing a human being.

  8. يحس القلب للقلب

    صبابات وأشجانا

    The heart feels for another heart

    ardent longings and sorrows.

  9. ترى في منزل ميا

    وفي آخر غيلانا

    You see Mayy in one house,

    and Ghaylan in another.

  10. وذى سلمى وذا حمدى

    يبثانك ما كانا

    And here is Salma, and here is Hamdi,

    both confiding to you what had happened.

  11. رواياتهما زادت

    أحاديث الهوى شانا
