Hearts beamed with joy while you were within them,

So pardon the blossoms if they smiled.

Great though it is, and great the host within it?

There, the Caliph of the All-Merciful has as his guest

A mighty man, eminent in his vice-regency.

When dignitaries gather around him, they step aside,

As lines of script descend below the imperial monogram.
