Sol 6.1

  1. لقد صفعوه صفعة جل شأنها

    وأعيا على حذق الطبيب علاجها

    Indeed, they dealt him a slap of great consequence;

    And treating it proved beyond the physician’s skill.

  2. ولو أتبعوا صفعا بصفع لأحسنوا

    وزان اللآلى في النحور ازدواجها

    And had they followed one slap with another, they would have done well;

    And pairing lends beauty to pearls upon the necks.
