I saw dogs in the Abode of Happiness,

I saw dogs in the abode of bliss

As many as its inhabitants, or more.

Their number matches or exceeds the inhabitants

ولكن بينهما فارقا

ولكن بينهما فارقا

ففيهم حماس وفيهم بلاده

ففيهم حماس وفيهم بلاده

But there is a difference between the two:

Yet between them lies a difference

For some show zeal, and some show dullness.

For in them lies zeal and love of country

مقسمة فرقا في الطريق

كما يقسم الجيش جندا وقاده

Divided into groups along the road,

Split into groups along the road

As an army is divided into soldiers and commanders.

As an army divides its soldiers and leaders

ومنها السمين بحجم الخروف

ومنها السمين بحجم الخروف

ومنها الضئيل بحجم الجرادة

ومنها الضئيل بحجم الجرادة

And some are fat, the size of a sheep,

Among them are the fat ones, sheep-sized

And some are tiny, the size of a locust.

And the tiny ones, grasshopper-sized

ويحلو لها النوم فوق الشريط

ويحلو لها النوم فوق الشريط

وتحلو لها في الطريق الولادة

وتحلو لها في الطريق الولادة

And they enjoy sleeping on the railway track,

They enjoy sleeping on the pavement

And they enjoy giving birth in the road.

And giving birth openly on the road

وقد يفسد الجو من نتنها

وقد يفسد الجو من نتنها

وعندهم حفظها كالعبادة

وعندهم حفظها كالعبادة

And their stench may foul the air,

Their stench can foul the air

And in their eyes, protecting them is like worship.

Yet they guard it like an act of worship
