صرت أرجو بأن تكون المرجى

صرت أرجو بأن تكون المرجى

وبان يبدل الهجا لك مدحا

I have come to hope that you will be the hoped-for one,

I have come to hope that you will be the one in whom hope is placed,

And that satire will be changed for me into praise.

And that satire against you will be turned into praise.

تلك كف قد اكتفت واكتفينا

فرأينا أن نعقب الصفع صفحا

That hand has had enough, and so have we;

So we resolved to follow the slap with forgiveness.
