A gazelle passed by a she-ass,
A doe passed by on a donkey,
Who was kissing her weanling on the teeth.
Kissing her fawn with affection.
وَكانَand was خَلفَbehind الظَبيَةِthe female gazelle اِبنُهاher son الرَشاthe fawn
بِوُدِّهاher wish was لَوif only حَمَلتهُshe carried him فيin الحَشاthe womb
Behind the gazelle was her son, the fawn;
Behind the gazelle was her frisky calf,
She wished she could carry him in her womb.
She wished to carry him in her pouch out of love.
فَفَعَلَتso she did بِسَيِّدِto the lord of الصِغارِthe little ones
فِعلَthe deed of الأَتانِthe she-ass بِاِبنِهاto her son الحِمارِthe donkey
So she did to the lord of the little ones
She did to the lord of the young,
What the she-ass had done to her son, the donkey.
What the donkey did to her foal.
فَأَسرَعَso he hurried الحِمارُthe donkey نَحوَtoward أُمِّهِhis mother

Then the donkey hurried toward his mother,
The foal rushed towards his mother,
And came to her, his mouth full of laughter,
He came to her, his mouth full of laughter.

Crying, 'O Mother, what has happened,
He cried, "O mother, what's come over you?
That even the gazelle has made light of her son?'
That you mocked your own fawn?"
