هذا الإمام عريض الجاه للجار

فاشرب على ظمأ من ورده الجاري

This imam with vast glory for the neighbor

So drink when thirsty from his flowing spring

يجرى بما شئت من جود ومن كرم

ومن علوم وأمداد وأسرار

Flowing with whatever you wish of generosity, honor,

Knowledge, aid, and secrets

هذا هو البحر لكن ساغ مورده

عذب فرات لقصاد وزوّار

This is the sea, though its course is gentle

Sweet Euphrates for visitors and passersby

هذا هو النور لا تخبو أشعّته

فالشرع في الكون من مشاكته سارى

This is the light, its rays do not fade

As jurisprudence in the universe flows from its lanterns

هذا سراج رجال العلم قدوتهم

فالكل مقتبس من زنده الوارى

This is the lamp of the scholars, their exemplar

All are ignited by its enduring flame

حبر رأى الرشد مقرونا بطلعته

فجد يطلبه من لين أظفار

The ink of insight combined with his vision

So seek him with soft fingertips

فكم طوى واسع البيداء مدرعا

درعا من الصبر في مجد وأغوار

See how many times he traversed the vast desert

Armored with patience in glory and danger

حتى سما في سماء الفضل نيّره

وأصبح الفرد في تخليد آثار

Until he reached the heavens of virtue, his brilliance apparent

And the individual became immortalized in perpetuating his legacy

مدت معارفه فوق السما طنبا

أربى على المشترى في رفع مقدار

His knowledge extended above the heavens like a grapevine

Flourishing over the North Star, raising its esteem

به اصتطال رحال الفضل قاطبة

حتى ارتقوا للعلا في حسن أفكار

By him the caravans of virtue altogether lengthened

Until they ascended to the heights in excellence of ideas

فخر الأئمة في رأي ومستند

سباق غايتهم في كل مضمار

Pride of the imams in opinion and authority

Their precedence in every field of competition

العالم القرشيّ المعتلى نسبا

المرتقى حسبا من نس أطهار

The cosmic Qurayshi scholar of lofty lineage

Of reputable descent from the purest ancestry

بالعلم منه طباق الأرض قد ملئت

صح الحديث بذا في خير أخبار

By his knowledge the horizons of earth are filled

True discourse circulates this in the best reports

كم معجزات له في العلم قد ظهرت

ظهور نار القرى في وقت أسحار

How many miracles of knowledge appeared through him

Like the dawn glow in the time of late night prayers

بحر الشريعة تجرى فوق لجته

سفينة الشرع شفت كل تيار

The sea of Shariah flows above its coast

The ship of law steers every current

مصر به وبآل البيت قد قخرت

على البلاد وفاقت كل أمصار

Egypt and the House of the Prophet boast of him

Above all other lands, surpassing all capitals

استغفر الله إلا طيبة فلها

بالمصطفى كل إجلال وإكبار

I seek forgiveness from God but for Tayba, for it

Deserves all reverence and glorification for the Prophet

منها عليها ستار النور منسدل

أكرم بساحة تلك الدار من دار

Upon it the veil of light is lowered

The most generous dwelling of that abode over any other

لكن لنا بجوار الطهر عترته

والشافعي عصمة من كل أخطار

But we have, by the purity of his family

And al-Shafi'i, protection from all perils

قاضى الشريعة قطب الفضل مركزه

حامى الحقيقة من أغوال أغيار

The jurist of Shariah, pillar of virtue, his center

Guardian of truth from the injustice of foes

له الكرامات تحكى في محاسنها

بدر الدجى مسفرا في حسن إبدار

For him miracles are recounted in their virtues

Like the full moon beaming beautifully in the dusk

تحكى بكثرتها عد الرمال إذا

قيست بها أو تحاكى وبل أمطار

Recounted abundantly, numbering the sands

If gauged by them, or the rains emulated

قد حبرتها بأيديها جهابذة

فعطرت من شذاها طيّ أسفار

Chronicled by able hands

Their fragrance has scented the pages of books

يا سادة حضروا كونوا على ثقة

أن الإمام لكم من خير أنصار

O masters, come and be assured

The imam is for you among the best supporters

كل الوفود وأنتم خير من وفدوا

سيمنحون الرضا مع حسن أنظار

All the delegations, of whom you are the best that came

Will be granted acceptance with gracious welcome

والكل يرجع بالإنعام مبتهجا

قرير عين بإيراد وإصدار

All return elated with bestowal

Content, rewarded with gifts and charity

كل ينال من الأمداد قسمته

لكن عارى الرضا من فيضه عاري

All gain their share of the aid

But deprivation of acceptance disgraces the deprived

يا شافعيّ نزلنا رحب ساحتكم

فاقر الضيوف فأنت الباذل القاري

O Shafi'i, we alighted in your broad courtyard

So host the guests, for you are the ever-giving

والحظ رجال الهدى والشرع قاطبة

فإنهم للورى أنوار أقمار

And may those of guidance and jurisprudence altogether

Be fortunate, for they are the luminous moons of humanity

وكل من خدموا بالصدق موسمكم

وأخلصوا سعيهم للخالق الباري

And all who sincerely served your cause

And devoted their efforts purely to the Creator

ما قمت أنشدكم في بدء مولده
