رحاب الفضل والمنح الجسام

The ink of Imams, Rabah al-Shafi'i

The vast, bountiful Rabah al-Fadl

به نور الشريعة قد تجلّى

كنور البدر في ليل التمام

The light of Shariah shone through him

Like the light of a full moon in the dark night

كأن الناس مذ وفدوا إليه

وفود الحج للبلد الحرام

As if people, since arriving to him

Were pilgrims arriving to the Sacred Land

فمنهل ورده عذب فرات

عليه الناس قامت في زحام

His sweet spring is a gushing Euphrates

Crowds gathered around it in a hubbub

مناقبه تفوق الرمل عدا

وبحر علومه بالفضل طامى

His virtues exceed the grains of sand

And his ocean of knowledge has surged high

إذا ذكر الأئمة من قريش

فحدث عن علا هذا الإمام

When the Imams of Quraysh are mentioned

He speaks of this lofty Imam

وقدم ذكره عنهم جميعا

عدا شمس الهدى نور الظلام

And he mentions him before all of them

Except for the Sun of Guidance, Light of Darkness

به ملئت طباق الأرض علما

كما صح الحديث عن التهامى

Through him, plates of the earth were filled with knowledge

As the hadith of Tihama was verified

هو القرشيّ أدرى من سواه

بما يعنى ويقصد في الكلام

He, the Qurashi, is more knowledgeable than others

About the intent and purpose of speech

فإن رمت الوسيلة نحو طه

ومن طه إلى مولى الأنام

So if you seek closeness to Taha

And from Taha to the Master of Men

فجاه الشافعيّ أجلّ جاه

جليل القدر مرتفع المقام

Then come to al-Shafi'i, most eminent

Of lofty status and sublime station

إمام الشرع بل حبر البرايا

وبحر الفضل مورد كل ظامى

The Imam of Shariah, indeed the Sea of Creation

And the ocean of virtue, haven for all thirsty

مكارمه على الزوار فاضت

كفيض علومه في الانسجام

His generosity overflows to visitors

Like the outpouring of his harmonized knowledge

ببحر علومه تجرى سفين

شعار شراعها بالشرع سامى

In the sea of his knowledge, ships sail

With the Shariah as their lofty banner

وفارس حلبة العلماء طرا

ورب السبق في قهر الطغام

Knight of the arena of scholars, flying high

Master of outpacing the tyrants

توجّه نحوه واقصد حماه

فغيث الجود في مغناه هامى

Turn to him and head for his refuge

For the rain of generosity roars there

وقف متأدبا واطلب رضاه

فإن رضاه من أقصى المرام

Stand with etiquette and seek his approval

For his approval is the height of hopes

وقل يا شفاعي إليك جئنا

عليك من الرضا أزكى السلام

Say: O intercessor, to you we came

Upon you, the most fragrant greetings of peace

فمدّ يد المكارم فائضات

إلى الزوار بالمنن العظام

So extend the hand of your endless generosity

To visitors with your magnificent gifts

وزوّدنا بموسمك العطايا

كما عوّدتنا في كل عام

And provide us in your season of giving

As you've accustomed us every year

فكم بك يا إمام وأهل بيت

مطرنا الخير من صوب الغمام

So many times, O Imam and Household

You've showered us with good from the clouds

ألا بشرا كم يا زائريه

فقد وجبت لكم دار السلام

Rejoice - how much, O pilgrims,

For you, the Abode of Peace is guaranteed

بسطت يدى إلى علياك أرجو

شفاء النفس من ألم السقام

I stretched my hands to your Ali

Hoping for healing from the pain of illness

فيا خير الأئمة من قريش

الا فانظر إلينا بابتسام

O best of Imams from Quraysh

Smile upon us

ومن حضر وارحابك الاحتفال

وأشياخي ذوى الفضل الفخام

And those attending your celebration

My elders of magnificent stature

ويا مولايَ فامنحنا جميعا

بحب الشافعي حسن الختام

And my Master, grant us all

To conclude beautifully in love of al-Shafi'i
