إلهي لك الشكر الجزيل مع الثنا

على نعمة الإسلام أشرف مقتنى

على نعمة الإسلام أشرف مقتنى

My God, to You be abundant thanks, together with praise,

My God, I offer abundant thanks and praise

for the blessing of Islam, the noblest possession.

For the blessing of Islam, most noble gain

هي النعمة العظمى لكل موحّد

هي النعمة العظمى لكل موحّد

خصوصا مع التوفيق والعلم والغنى

خصوصا مع التوفيق والعلم والغنى

It is the greatest blessing for every believer in God's oneness,

It is the greatest favor for all who profess God's oneness

especially with God-given success, knowledge, and wealth,

Especially with success, knowledge and wealth

وصحة جسم واعتدال جوارح

وصحة جسم واعتدال جوارح

وحسن يقين في الفؤاد تمكّنا

وحسن يقين في الفؤاد تمكّنا

and a healthy body and sound limbs,

And health of body and equilibrium of faculties

and sound certainty firmly established in the heart.

And beautiful certainty that rooted in the heart

فتلك هبات لا أقوم بشكرها

فتلك هبات لا أقوم بشكرها

ولو كان لي عد الكواكب ألسنا

ولو كان لي عد الكواكب ألسنا

So these are gifts for which I cannot give due thanks,

These are gifts I cannot adequately thank

even if I had as many tongues as there are stars.

Even if I had tongues equal to the stars' number

ومالي رجاء غير أني مسلم

ومالي رجاء غير أني مسلم

أرى العفو عنى من هباتك هينا

أرى العفو عنى من هباتك هينا

And my only hope lies in being a Muslim;

And I have no hope but that I am Muslim

among Your gifts, I deem pardoning me an easy one.

So I see forgiveness for me from Your gifts as slight

فجودك فياض وفضلك واسع

فجودك فياض وفضلك واسع

وعفوك مرجو لمن جار أو جنى

وعفوك مرجو لمن جار أو جنى

For Your generosity overflows, and Your bounty is vast,

For Your generosity overflows, Your grace is vast

and Your pardon is hoped for by whoever has acted unjustly or sinned.

And I hope for Your pardon, whether I sin or err

فأرجوك صفحا عن ذنوب كثيرة

فأرجوك صفحا عن ذنوب كثيرة

وأسألك الغفران فهو لي المنى

وأسألك الغفران فهو لي المنى

So I implore You to overlook my many sins,

So I implore Your clemency for many sins

and I ask You for forgiveness, for it is my desire.

And I ask Your forgiveness, for that is my wish

وخير وسيط أرتجيه لحالتي

وخير وسيط أرتجيه لحالتي

رسول الهدى من للشريعة بينا

رسول الهدى من للشريعة بينا

And the best intercessor I hope for in my plight

The best intercessor I hope for in my state

is the Messenger of guidance, who made the sacred law clear:

Is the Messenger of guidance who made the Law clear

محمد المبعوث من خير عنصر

محمد المبعوث من خير عنصر

وأكرم من للحق بالحق أعلنا

وأكرم من للحق بالحق أعلنا

Muhammad, sent forth from the noblest stock,

Muhammad, sent from the best origin

and the noblest of those who proclaimed truth for truth's sake.

And most honorable in stating the truth

أتانا بشرع ناصع الوجه نير

أتانا بشرع ناصع الوجه نير

وخير كتاب كان للخير معلنا

وخير كتاب كان للخير معلنا

He came to us with a law whose face is pure and radiant,

He brought us a radiant Law, luminous

and the best of books, which proclaimed goodness.

And the best Book that declared good

رءوف رحيم شافع ومشفّع

رءوف رحيم شافع ومشفّع

أغرّ جميل واضح البشر والسنا

أغرّ جميل واضح البشر والسنا

Compassionate, merciful, an intercessor whose intercession is accepted,

Compassionate, Merciful, intercessor and interceder

radiant and beautiful, his cheerfulness and splendor plain.

Most eloquent, beautiful in face and teeth

فبالمصطفى حقق إجابة دعوتي

فبالمصطفى حقق إجابة دعوتي

فعنه حديث العفو جاء معنعنا

فعنه حديث العفو جاء معنعنا

So, through the Chosen One, grant an answer to my prayer,

Through the Chosen One my prayer was answered

for a tradition on pardon came from him through a chain of narrators.

For from him the discourse of pardon came whispering

فإن تعف عن ذنبي فشأنك هكذا

فإن تعف عن ذنبي فشأنك هكذا

وإن رمت تعذيبي وقهري فما أنا

وإن رمت تعذيبي وقهري فما أنا

So if You pardon my sin, such is Your way;

So if You pardon my sin, such is Your wont

and if You wish to punish and subdue me, then what am I?

And if You intend my torment and subjugation, I am not

على المصطفى مني أتم تحية

على المصطفى مني أتم تحية

وأجلّ تسليم ينمّ به الثنا

وأجلّ تسليم ينمّ به الثنا

Upon the Chosen One be my fullest greeting,

Upon the Chosen One I offer perfect greetings

and the most exalted salutation of peace, expressed in praise.

And utmost submission that multiplies praise
