أم عبد العزيز ماتت وسارت

للنعيم المقيم كيما تنعّم

Abd al-Aziz's mother has died and journeyed

To everlasting bliss, that she may delight.

فارقتنا شهيدة وتولّت

كأبيها الحسين وقت المحرم

She left us as a martyr and departed,

Like her father al-Husayn, in Muharram.

كنت أرضى بها من الدهر لكن

مر كاس الردى شراب محتم

I was content with her as my share from fate, but

Death's bitter cup is an inevitable draught.

هكذا هكذا نسير تباعا

لكن البر في المسير مقدم

Thus, thus we journey, one after another,

But the righteous are sent ahead on the journey.

رحمة الله والاسلام عليها

في جنان الخلود قدر معظم

May the mercy of God and of Islam be upon her;

In the gardens of eternity, hers is an exalted rank.

إن بك الوضع والمخاض سقاما

كاس حتف فرب عقم مسلم

If childbirth and labor were sickness for you,

A cup of death—then barrenness often brings safety.

إن عيشى بقربها كان حلوا

وغدا الان مثل صاب وعلقم

Indeed, my life beside her was sweet,

And now it has become like bitter sap and colocynth.

كان حالى وحالتي في بهاء

وأرى الآن أن ذاك تصرم

My condition and my state were splendid,

And now I see that it has come to an end.
