بَدَأتَ بِإِحسانٍ وَثَنَّيتَ بِالرِضا

بَدَأتَ بِإِحسانٍ وَثَنَّيتَ بِالرِضا

وَثَلَّثتَ بِالحُسنى وَرَبَّعتَ بِالكَرَم

وَثَلَّثتَ بِالحُسنى وَرَبَّعتَ بِالكَرَم

You began with kindness and followed it with approval.

You began with kindness and followed with contentment

And you added goodness third, and generosity fourth.

You made it three with goodness and four with generosity

وَباشَرتَ أَمري وَاِعتَنَيتَ بِحاجَتي

وَباشَرتَ أَمري وَاِعتَنَيتَ بِحاجَتي

وَأَخَّرتَ لا عَنّي وَقَدَّمتَ لي نَعَم

وَأَخَّرتَ لا عَنّي وَقَدَّمتَ لي نَعَم

And you personally attended to my affairs and cared for my need.

You took care of my matter and met my need

And you held back “no” from me and put “yes” first for me.

You did not delay me but forwarded blessings to me

وَصَدَّقتَ لي ظَنّاً وَأَنجَزتَ مَوعِداً

وَصَدَّقتَ لي ظَنّاً وَأَنجَزتَ مَوعِداً

وَتابَعتَ بِالنُعمى وَما زِلتَ ذا كَرَم

وَتابَعتَ بِالنُعمى وَما زِلتَ ذا كَرَم

And you confirmed my expectation and fulfilled a promise.

You confirmed my hopes and fulfilled promises

And you continued with favors and never ceased to be generous.

You continued grace and remain ever generous

فَإِن نَحنُ كافَأنا فَأَهلٌ لِقصدِنا

فَإِن نَحنُ كافَأنا فَأَهلٌ لِقصدِنا

وَإِن نَحنُ قَصَّرنا فَما الوُدُّ مُتَّهَم

وَإِن نَحنُ قَصَّرنا فَما الوُدُّ مُتَّهَم

So if we repay you, you are worthy of our endeavor.

If we requite, we are worthy of our aim

And if we fall short, our affection is not in doubt.

If we fall short, affection is not to be blamed
